Your Counselling

We are all unique individuals with our own interests, strengths, challenges, thoughts, and feelings. Though we may have similar life experiences, each of us respond and are affected in different ways. The purpose of Crossroads to Hope Counselling is to provide effective and empathetic counselling where you feel safe, heard, understood and ready to take the next steps in your healing journey. As the client, you are in control. Counselling sessions are paced according to your comfort level and therapeutic modalities are not used without a clear explanation of the process and your consent. As a counsellor, it is not simply about providing answers, but rather walking beside you in this journey in which we find the answers together.

These are the various types of therapeutic modalities used by Jeremy that may be incorporated into your session:

  • Trauma Informed Practice is not necessarily a therapeutic modality, but rather a framework based on an understanding of trauma. The goal of TIP is to create a physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual space in which survivors may explore their trauma and regain a sense of empowerment and control in their lives. For more information or resources, please see https://ca.ctrinstitute.com/blog/trauma-informed/

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy is a therapeutic modality used to help people recover from PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. The goal of EMDR Therapy is to incorporate the natural healing process of the brain while also creating a connection with the body to process unresolved or “stuck” traumatic memories. For more information or resources, please see https://www.emdria.org/about-emdr-therapy/

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a therapeutic modality used to help people with a range of challenges, including depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship problems, eating disorders and other mental health related matters. The goal of CBT is to determine the connection between learned patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to bring about change. For more information or resources, please see https://www.apa.org/ptsd-guideline/patients-and-families/cognitive-behavioral

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a therapeutic modality used to assist people with living in the present moment through emotional regulation and addressing self-destructive behaviours. The goal of DBT is to develop healthy techniques to cope with stress, regulate emotions, increase mindfulness, and improve relationships with others. • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a therapeutic modality used to teach people psychological skills to deal with painful thoughts and feelings as well as committing to actions based on their values. The goal of ACT is to teach the mindfulness skills of defusion (letting go), acceptance and connection with the present moment. For more information or resources, please see https://www.actmindfully.com.au/about-act/

  • Strengths Based Therapy (SBT) is a therapeutic modality that assists people with recognizing their inner strengths through the retelling of stories and highlighting the skills used to survive. The goal of SBT is to focus on internal strengths to improve resilience, increase confidence, and create a more positive view of self and others. For more information or resources, please see https://www.psychologytoday.com/ca/therapy-types/strength-based-therapy

  • Solutions Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a therapeutic modality that assists people with identifying goals and developing solutions rather than focusing on the problem. The goal of SFBT is to be present and future oriented to create motivation and identify solutions to achieve sustainable behavioural change.
